With 3rd restaurant/bar in less than a year, Priyank Sukhija is sure on a mission to change the landscape of Mumbai’s restaurants/bars.
Massive and spacious are the words synonymous with what Tamasha, Lord of The Drinks and now the youngest one Jlwa are. The Bold and shiny interior makes a vibrant ambiance. During daytime, enough natural light complements it.
Jlwa joins the progressive Indian cuisine bandwagon where chefs get some freedom to experiment and showcase their creativity while maintaining the flavors of Indian cuisines. This is my definition of progressive Indian food and again, taste is very subjective just like the food at Jlwa.
We got started with a couple of drinks and starters.
House Chips, an assortment of potato, banana and jackfruit chips with 3 dips, was first to arrive. Velvety smooth paneer of Onion Honey Paneer Tikka that was marinated in onion and honey sauce was liked by the most on the table.
LIIT was, as usual, potent and had a familiar taste. ADKDA, made with vodka and apple syrup, was an animated drink with foam of elderflower and fumes of dry-ice.
Paneer Lukhmi Ghugra was a fusion dish of Gujarati Ghughra and Hyderabadi Lukmi served with basil and coconut chutney.
Paneer Arabic Pocket: Paneer with sauce in Arabian style pita pockets. Watch out for the red chili in the pocket. I failed to notice and paid the heavy price! Maple Whiskey with a prominent sweetness of Maple syrup came to my rescue. Those who like Maple syrup will love this.
Rose Sangria as per the name, had rose flavor blended in a red wine. The glass rimmed with chocolate gave it a fine taste.
Navratna Dal with Bajre ki Roti was the most liked dish on the table.
The Ambarsari Wadi and Paneer Biryani cooked in dum style had rose water flavor. While it tasted good, it has a too generous quantity of paneer was stopping the rice from doing the justice.
Not A Shahi Tukda was a fusion variant or a continental variant of the famous Indian dessert, Shahi Tukda. Instead of bread pieces in condensed milk, it was a stack of buttery brioche with mascarpone cheese and flavors of rose and dry fruit.
Texture of Chocolate was a plate full of different chocolate items like a chocolate brownie, dark chocolate sphere, bitter chocolate mousse decorated with chocolate foam, milk, and white chocolate.
Some of the teething issues were evident but given the passionate and lively staff, overcoming them will be just a matter of time.

For ambiance, must visit, for food, being progressive Indian cuisine, too subjective to recommend.
